Garage Door Maintenance Tips

  • Wash the door with clean water and a cloth regularly.  If you think of cleaning your car… clean your garage door. More frequent washing is advised in salty or industrial fallout areas.
  • Check user manual for recommendations on 3-6 monthly cleaning of guide tracks, hinges, locks, springs and chains.
  • Annually check cables, fasteners, spring tension and locks.
  • Complete a balance check by switching the garage door to manual mode and lift the door manually. If the door doesn’t open smoothly or doesn’t remain open, contact a professional for testing and repairs.
  • Check the photo-eye/edge detection and reverse operations of the door 1-3 monthly.
  • Annually give all rollers, hinges, tracks, hinges, and latches a good spray with WD-40 (always check your individual manuals to ensure this product suits your specific type of roller door).

Remember: Do not place your fingers near any moving parts or between the door panels when the door is operating in either manual or automatic mode.
