Home Maintenance Tips: Optimise Your Outdoor Space

Stained Timber: Avoid fading and peeling, sand and re-coat timber every 15-18 months.

External Stone Tiles: Re-seal annually with a penetrating UV resistant sealer to avoid damage and natural staining of the stone.

Roof: Remove debris from roof, gutters and down pipes before and after the season. Dampness around build-up quickly leads to corrosion, deterioration and costly repairs. Backed up water from debris also causes substantial house damage.

Remember: Never walk on a wet roof as it is slippery and dangerous. Always be careful when using ladders.

Covertex Patio: Regular cleaning with a hose and stiff broom works wonders. If stubborn stains persist, use detergent such as Truckwash and a scrubbing brush followed by a hose off. Don’t let the detergent dry on the patio as it will leave a cloudy mark as it does on car paint. Ensure no pools of water remain after the clean and avoid bleach or chemical cleaners where possible to avoid damage to surface.

Tiled Patio: A broom over and hose off will usually do the job. If stubborn stains persist, use detergent such as Truckwash and a scrubbing brush, or gumption and acrylic scourer, followed by a hose off. Don’t let the detergent dry on the patio as it will leave cloudy residue. Ensure no pools of water remain after the clean and avoid bleach or chemical cleaners where possible to avoid damage to surface.

Taps: Check taps for leaks regularly. If leaks are present, replace the washer as soon as possible and avoid turning the tap off too tightly.
